In September
2004 PFA Research launched its Tourism in Cornwall:
Tapping the Local Market reports. The reports present
the results of over 600 face-to-face interviews conducted
with local residents about their experience of, and
satisfaction with, Cornish visitor attractions. Click

The drive to conduct this research
came from earlier discussions with key figures in the
tourism business and through a programme of focus groups
conducted with tourism businesses in Cornwall. The purpose
was to explore the potential need to answer the many
questions business heads have about their customers,
prospective customers and the Cornish tourism marketplace.
This foundation research revealed a dynamic and evolving
market environment. Increasing competition, significantly
influenced by the increasingly ubiquitous internet,
and more sophisticated visitors to Cornwall with higher
expectations, came out as key factors in the need to
bring about change in the tourism business to ensure
it continues to be successful and take advantage of
emerging opportunities. The results,
highlighted in our report "Tourism in Cornwall:
the Challenge and the Opportunity", can be
downloaded
here.
